GrizCam Desktop is an all-in-one workspace that turns raw field data into research findings across three senses — GrizEars for ARU (Autonomous Recording Unit) and biologger audio, GrizEyes for camera-trap imagery with linked audio events, and GrizNose (coming soon) for environmental chemistry. It's built to cut the cost and effort of monitoring large landscapes — and the flood of data that environmental sensing devices like game-trail cameras, ARUs, and weather stations collect from them. GrizEars is engineered to make manual annotation of large recording datasets as fast and fluid as possible, handling thousands to tens of thousands of audio files at once — even on a laptop. Beyond viewing and annotating acoustic recordings, GrizEars lets you train, validate, and run your own classifiers on modern foundation models (AVES2, Perch 2.0) — with honest hold-out metrics and a review-and-refit loop — turning “what's in this recording?” into a working detector, no code required. GrizCam Desktop (free subscription) supports Wildlife Acoustics and other third-party ARUs and game-trail cameras, yet performs best when used with GrizCam devices (paid subscription), where synchronized audio, location, and telemetry power the ARU and biologger maps, direction-of-arrival, and on-device acoustics AI classification. GrizEars now lets you collaborate with colleagues

Send a recording. Get your colleague’s ears back.

GrizEars can now share a recording straight from your desktop to another GrizCam user’s — no zips, no cloud drives, no “did you get my email?” Right-click a recording, press Share audio, and it lands in their GrizCam Desktop with your annotations already drawn on the spectrogram. The audio is encrypted on your machine before it leaves and only their computer can open it; the GrizCam service just carries the parcel.

Then the good part: they annotate it like any recording of their own — tighten your boxes, add the howl you missed, delete the one that was really a truck — and press Sync with contact. Only the changes travel back. You see them as proposals, accept or deny each one, and your folder stays yours until you say so. Disagree about a call? Every shared annotation has its own conversation thread, so the argument happens next to the sound instead of in a 40-message email chain.

Pair once with anyone who has a GrizCam account, share as many recordings as you like, and delete what you received when the work is done. It’s the review loop field teams have been faking with Dropbox for years — built in. Available with a Pro subscription on both ends.

Private by design.

Every recording you share is encrypted on your own computer before it leaves — with a key that exists only on your machine and your contact’s — so the GrizCam service carries a sealed parcel it cannot open, and deletes it once your contact has collected it (or after 14 days, untouched). Each computer signs what it sends, so a recording can’t be altered or spoofed in transit, and each pairing shows a safety code on both screens that you can read to each other to be sure you’re connected to the right person. Nothing is ever shared until you press Send, nothing downloads on the other side until they choose, and either of you can end a pairing at any time.
